‘Spring Clean’ Your Teeth With A Smile Makeover At Our Burton Dentists
SG Dental offers general and cosmetic treatments to help you have a great looking smile ready for Spring!
Most of you will probably have noticed, with some relief we imagine, that the days have started to warm up, with more sun than we have seen in recent months. While there will inevitably be setbacks with the British weather, there is little doubt that the sunnier and warmer days are ahead of us for a few months to come. This is often a time of the year when we spring clean our homes and make some style changes for the sunnier weather ahead. Increasingly, dental patients are doing the same for their smile.
In today’s blog, we are going to take a look at some of the ways that we can help you put the greyness of winter behind you and treat yourself to a whiter and brighter smile with the aid of the cosmetic dental treatments that we have on offer at our highly-rated Burton clinic.
First steps – check up and a professional clean
Before we start to improve the way that your teeth look, it is important to make sure that your teeth and gums are healthy. A check up will allow us to treat any cavities etc at a relatively early stage. The dental hygienist will also offer advice on your gum health care and provide you with a professional clean. This helps to remove tartar from the teeth surface, and equally importantly, the gum line, which helps to prevent gum disease. Once your teeth and gums are in good health, we can address any smile issues that you might have.
Teeth whitening
Some of the most popular cosmetic dentistry involves teeth whitening to some degree. This is perhaps not surprising given that it can make a rapid improvement to the way that your teeth look. The procedure is also non invasive, painless and also relatively inexpensive, making it available to a lot of people. It can also be customised to your needs. You can choose the shade of whiteness that you feel would be most appropriate for you. From the brightest of whites to a lesser shade improvement, we can help you to achieve the whiteness you wish for,
Dental veneers
The teeth whitening procedure is a successful way of having a whiter smile for most people. For some though, it may not be quite as effective. For patients who have been smokers in the past or who still are, or for those who have consumed a lot of teeth-staining foods and drinks, their discolouration may be too significant for a tooth whitening treatment to make the improvements that they are hoping for.
In situations such as this. We have found that veneers offer an excellent solution. Instead of whitening the current enamel like the teeth whitening procedure does, we remove a fine layer of enamel from the discoloured tooth and replace it with a custom made veneer which is attached to the prepared tooth with a clinical adhesive and it is then shaped and polished to give it a natural but whiter appearance.
Veneers can also be used to improve the appearance of teeth that have suffered from minor chips and cracks that don’t threaten the integrity of the tooth but which spoil their appearance.
A porcelain veneer should last you for around ten years if you follow the dentist’s advice when it comes to cleaning and general dentistry care.
Crowns and white fillings
While crowns are perhaps better known for restoring a badly decayed or damaged tooth, they can also be used to improve their appearance too. If teeth are of uneven height, for example, this can affect the smile quite significantly. Depending on the nature of this, a crown may be an appropriate way to correct the tooth height and improve the appearance of the smile. They can also be used to reshape a tooth, such as where it has been worn away by tooth grinding (bruxism).
Orthodontics
Although some orthodontic treatment can be lengthy, especially in more complex cases, it can sometimes be much faster acting, especially where a minor cosmetic correction is needed. Where a tooth is slightly crooked or is pressed against or overlaps another tooth slightly, there are now discreet orthodontics that can be used to correct this. These orthodontics use teeth coloured materials to make them less visible and can sometimes correct minor issues in a matter of a few weeks.
Hopefully, the recent sunshine is a sign that sunnier and warmer days are here to (mostly) stay for some time to come. Holidays and other social occasions are more likely to occur at this time of the year and it makes sense to ‘spring clean’ your smile. With the help of the friendly cosmetic dental team at SG Dental and Implant Centre, we can help you to achieve just that.
