Correcting Minor Issues with Dental Veneers in Burton

How patients can benefit from this flexible cosmetic dental procedure.

From a cosmetic viewpoint, one of the most common reasons that people come to our Burton Upon Trent dental practice is because they are unhappy with the colour of their teeth.

Whilst most of these people will instantly benefit from a straightforward tooth whitening procedure, for some, this is a less realistic option.

Whilst anyone who has very badly stained teeth will benefit, to some degree, from teeth whitening, the degree of success is likely to be less obvious and they may feel not fully satisfied with results.

Veneers

For this reason, at Mike Allen’s Dental Practice, following a thorough examination, we may suggest that the whitening option is unlikely to be successful and that dental veneers offer a better solution.

By replacing the heavily discoloured front section of the enamel with a new porcelain veneer, what were once ugly and discoloured teeth become ones that you can be proud of when you smile

Minor damage

It isn’t just discoloured teeth that veneers are useful for however. They can also be used to restore a tooth that has suffered minor chips and cracks.

Even where the teeth are only slightly discoloured, having them whitened would only emphasise these imperfections, whereas the use of dental veneers hides them entirely.

Gaps in the teeth

Whilst some people consider a diastema (a gap between the front teeth) ‘alluring’, they can cause movement of the surrounding teeth, eventually leaving them out of position.

After initially examining the diastema, our Burton cosmetic dentist will be able to decide whether the correction needed can be fulfilled using dental veneers, or, whether one of our adult orthodontic range would be a better option. Of course, we will discuss the various options in detail with you.

Shading the veneers

One factor to be considered when having dental veneers, is the ‘shade’ or colour. Fortunately they can be manufactured to match the natural shade of your teeth, providing a stable and natural look natural for a long period of time.

There are additional considerations – for example, if you are using them to correct a diastema, and also have your teeth whitened, you should be aware that, whilst the new veneers will stay the colour you selected, the other teeth will eventually darken again, leaving the veneers standing out unless your teeth are re-whitened. As you would imagine, our dentists have a lot of experience with this popular treatment and we will identify all of the benefits, and any downsides, before we proceed.
