Men And Cosmetic Dentistry

Times have changed and more men now want to look their best too!

There was a time when men simply looked older as the years went by. Wrinkles and yellow stained teeth through smoking were the norm. Times change though, and we find an increasing number of men coming through the doors of our Burton dental practice for cosmetic dental treatment.

Whether this increase is due to people such as David Beckham or just media personalities generally, no one seems to be sure, but there is little doubt that men do take more pride in their appearance than before.

More successful?

One reason that many men give for having cosmetic dentistry is that they feel it increases their chances of success in business and even in relationships. There is little doubt that few men, even in their fifties and sixties, are ready for the ‘pipe and slippers’ period of their life and are consequently often in competition with younger people when it comes to job hunting.

Although it is perhaps unwise to lie about our age at job interviews, the fact that you obviously take care of yourself may well help you in getting the job that you want. It has been shown that most people make an initial judgement about somebody within the first few seconds of meeting them and if you have a warm, attractive smile, you will certainly not have harmed your chances.

Procedures for men

All the cosmetic dental procedures that we offer at Mike Allen’s Dental Practice are equally appropriate for men as they are for women. A white smile looks great on anybody and can help to make you look younger too. Our teeth whitening procedures, whether in house or customised home kit, are excellent ways of restoring a youthful whiteness to your teeth. These are fast acting and non invasive treatments which is also very affordable for most.

Even teeth that have become very heavily stained from smoking can be restored. Whilst a teeth whitening procedure may help in many cases, dental veneers are likely to prove more effective for more extreme cases. These are used to replace the stained exterior of the teeth by removing a very fine layer and replacing them with porcelain veneers. These are long lasting and easy to care for.

Even if you have lost a tooth, perhaps from an accident whilst playing a sport, you don’t have to have dentures to replace it. Although dentures do still have a role to play, many patients now look to dental implants as a more stable and long lasting replacement for a missing tooth.
