A New Smile In The New Year?

At SG Dental, we can help transform your smile into the whiter, straighter one you deserve.

It has been said that the first thing that people notice about you when you meet them is your smile. This is likely to take place within a few seconds of meeting and can affect the way that they relate to you. This can have a positive or negative impact in situations like job interviews or if you are dating, depending on what your smile is like. With the new year often being seen as a good time to make a new start, what better time to take advantage of some of the cosmetic treatments that we offer at our Burton dental practice to help you have an improved smile in 2025.

In today’s blog, we will take a look at some of the treatments that we can offer that can improve the way that your teeth look. Naturally, this information can only be brief here and may not be applicable in all cases. To find out the best way to improve your smile, you will need to see one of our local Burton dentists for an initial consultation. We hope that this summary helps you to understand the possibilities that are open to you though.

Tooth whitening procedure

One of the quickest ways to improve the appearance of your smile is to have one of our fast acting and affordable teeth whitening treatments. In order to do this, we will need to take impressions of your teeth in order for the trays that will hold the whitening solution to be produced. Once these are ready for you, we will recall you to our practice where you will be shown how to apply the whitening gel into the trays and then fit them over your teeth.

This method allows you to carry out the treatment at home, and, in approximately one week, you will start to notice improvements in the whiteness of your teeth, with the full effects being seen a week or so later. Naturally, we are here for any help or advice during this treatment period.

Dental veneers

For those whose teeth are perhaps more heavily stained or have minor flaws such as small chips that spoil their looks, porcelain veneers may be a better solution. This does usually involve the removal of a fine layer of enamel from the front of the teeth which is done using a local anaesthetic so should not be uncomfortable.  Impressions will then be taken of the prepared teeth and your new dental veneers made from these. You will be given temporary veneers to protect your teeth for the week or so that it takes for the new veneers to be made.

Once your new veneers have been returned to our practice, we will remove the temporary veneers and attach your custom ones to your teeth using a strong clinical adhesive. Finally, these will be trimmed and polished to make them look attractive and natural.

Another advantage of veneers is that they keep your smile white for ten years or more providing that you look after them as instructed.

Orthodontic treatment

Straight teeth are naturally more attractive than those that are crooked. In the past, straightening them would have required a lengthy period of time wearing very visible metal dental braces. This has tended to deter many people from having orthodontic treatment carried out.

Our Burton dental practice offers you a modern and more discreet way of having straighter teeth by using ‘invisible aligners’ including the popular and well established Invisalign brand.

In order to use these, we will take scans and x-rays of your teeth and the trays will be produced from these. When they are ready, you will be shown how to fit them over your teeth. You will need to wear a tray for around 20-22 hours per day, with each one being worn for a short while before being replaced by the next tray. Each one progressively moves your teeth towards their desired position. Unlike regular braces, these trays are very convenient can be removed when you are eating meals and for cleaning your teeth.

Dental implants

A confident smile might not be quite as confident if you wear dentures. From time to time, these have been known to move around in the mouth, or even on rare occasions, fall out altogether. While this might cause some amusement if you are with friends, it is less likely to do so in a situation such as an important interview or business meeting, or perhaps when meeting a potential new partner, especially for the first time.

Those who wear dentures, or indeed have simply not replaced a missing tooth, can benefit by having this replaced with a dental implant. This modern tooth replacement method replaces the root of the tooth as well as the crown part. This makes it extremely strong and secure and is currently as close to a natural tooth as can be attained.

As we approach the end of the year, why not start to give some thought to ways that you would like us to help you have a winning smile.
