Looking Forwards To 2022 – A Few Smile Improvement Ideas

Once Christmas is over, many of us will be turning our thoughts to the new year and personal improvements

While most of us will be focussing on the coming week or two, planning celebrations and shopping for both presents and Christmas food, we might occasionally allow our thoughts to wander a few weeks forwards into the new year. This is traditionally a time when we start to consider what changes we can make to our lives to improve them. Even if we no longer make actual new year resolutions, the start of a year often signals a new start for a lot of people.

Although we don’t claim to be able to work miracles and improve your life in every area, we do believe that, at Mike Allen’s Dental Practice, we can offer you ways to improve not only the health of your teeth, but the way that they look too, giving you nicer looking teeth and a much improved smile.

So, for those of you who are less than happy about the way that your teeth look when you smile, we offer a brief recap of some of the cosmetic dental treatments that we can offer our Burton patients to help them have nicer looking teeth in the new year.

Teeth whitening

For those who are new to cosmetic dental treatments, this is a great place to start. A teeth whitening procedure is non-invasive and painless. It is also an affordable treatment that will  whiten your smile by several shades. We offer an ‘at home’ treatment that is customised for you and by wearing the trays with the whitening gel as instructed, we think that you will be delighted with the results.

Porcelain dental veneers

Whilst the first step to whiter teeth is a teeth whitening procedure, this may not work with those whose teeth have become very badly stained or discoloured. This also applies where teeth have become cracked or chipped, whether through wear and tear or an accident. This can usually be overcome by fitting dental veneers to the patient’s teeth. These are very fine layers of porcelain which are attached to the front of the teeth following preparation. Veneers are an excellent way to improve your smile and they often last for around ten years or more with good care.

Orthodontics

Whilst the previous two treatments can change the appearance of your smile in a short period of time, some problems do take longer. A good example of this is patients who have crooked or uneven teeth. This can make them self-conscious of smiling but can also increase the chance of other damage such as tooth decay. Naturally, you can’t simply force a tooth into its correct position in a short period of time as this would damage the tooth and the bone in which it is held. Orthodontics (braces) are therefore the best way to do this as they gently ‘coax’ the teeth back to their correct position. One issue for many patients of our Burton dental practice is that orthodontics have traditionally been quite visible, but the new generation aligners are much less visible, making patients more confident about wearing them.

Dental implants

You may be one of those patients who think that it is already too late for you. If your teeth are in very poor condition or you already have quite a few of them missing, all is not lost. Whilst dentures are still available, more and more patients are having teeth implants placed instead. These not only replace the visible part of the tooth but also replace the root section too. This means that the replacement tooth, or teeth, are held firmly in place, offering a strength and stability that no other tooth replacement method can currently offer. If you think that you are already a ‘lost cause’, please do call us for a consultation and let us help you rebuild your smile, and your confidence, with implants and other suitable cosmetic dentistry treatments.

The above treatments make up the majority of our cosmetic options and should help to really give you a smile to be proud of. Whilst some cases are very straightforward, other patients might have more complex needs and require more than one of these, also sometimes known as a ‘smile makeover’. We are here to help everyone have a healthy and attractive smile so please do contact us to arrange a consultation in the new year. We will do all that we can to help you have the smile that you want!

As this is our last blog for 2021, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all patients of Mike Allen’s Dental Practice in Burton a happy Christmas and New Year.
